Frequently Asked Questions
Are your products really smoky?
Absolutely, Yes! The robust and rich smoky aroma and flavor is what sets us apart and distinguishes us from other salts and spices on the market.
One of our favorite things about the smoking process is watching the beautiful snow-white salt become visibly darker, as it’s inundated with rich smoke flavor and aroma. Then we stir it and watch it happen again. This is also one reason we landed on a medium-sized salt flake—it has the perfect amount of surface area to saturate with smoky aroma and flavor.
As you know, a first impression is difficult to overcome. This is why we love starting on a high note. One of the most enjoyable experiences with our products is that initial gripping aroma that you get the moment you twist the lid off of our glass jars. The beauty of the smoke-rich, savory fragrance from our proprietary wood blend and fresh rosemary is that it bridges the gap between campfire memories and a five-star dining experience.
So, yes! It is definitely smoky and mimics the flavor of food cooked over an open flame! Our passion to share this multi-sensory culinary experience with everyone is actually the wind (smoke) that filled our sails to make the company happen. The waves of positive feedback that we have received over the past few years have proven time and time again that we aren’t the only ones who feel this way. Rest assured, new customer; we’re not just blowin’ smoke. We’re driving it deep into the heart of our products.
What type of salt do you use?
Our American-sourced, medium-flaked kosher salt is a celebration of simplicity, purity, and control in the kitchen. Crafted without additives or iodine, its clean, mineral-bright flavor is free from the slightly bitter, metallic notes often found in iodized table salt. What remains is pure salt—nothing more, nothing less—allowing the true essence of your ingredients to shine.
Unlike fine table salt, which can easily overpower with harsh salinity, kosher salt offers a gentler, more balanced seasoning. As mentioned, the size was chosen as the optimal vessel, having the perfect amount of surface area to saturate with smoky richness. Our flakes are sized for tactile precision; hold a pinch between your thumb and forefinger, and you’ll feel the difference—spreading evenly across a roast, steak, or vegetables in a way that ensures consistency and beauty in every bite.
More than just seasoning, this salt is a tool—trusted by chefs, favored by home cooks, and essential in any kitchen where flavor, texture, and technique truly matter.
How is it smoked?
At Abraham’s Spices, we take immense pride in the way we smoke our products—using a proprietary blend of sustainably-sourced Northwest wood that we harvest and process entirely by hand. This meticulous, hands-on approach ensures not only the highest quality but also a deep respect for the environment and our craft. Unlike many commercial smoking pellets that rely on binders or glues, our wood blend is 100% natural—free of additives, chemicals, or fillers. The result is a clean, authentic smoke that infuses our spices with a rich, nuanced flavor you can taste in every pinch.
We smoke all of our spices in small batches over several hours to ensure deep, even flavor development. Throughout the process, we frequently rotate the spices to allow every granule to absorb the rich, smoky essence evenly. This careful attention results in a balanced yet robust flavor profile that enhances any dish without overpowering it.
What should I use your products on?
SPOILER ALERT: The answer is “Everything” … But, wait! There’s MORE!
Almost every time we share our Smoked Rosemary Salt with someone, they ask us, “What do you put it on?” When we get this question, it’s difficult to not just say, “Everything,” but that is our honest answer. If we start rattling off all of the things that we put it on in our home, we start sounding like “Bubba” in the film Forrest Gump, explaining all of the different ways to prepare shrimp. And, speaking of shrimp… Smoked Rosemary Salt goes really well with that, too!
When we do give our “elevator pitch” and spout off a short list of things to put it on, we mention: Beef, chicken, pork, lamb, fish, any seafood, eggs, vegetables, soups, sauces, gravy, tomatoes, potatoes (any way you cook them), pretzels, breads, biscuits, pastries, etc., etc., etc…
